Hotcha originally approached Design & Tonic to re-design their menus, but before we knew it, we became involved in a total re-brand.

Having gone through a brand consultation process they knew that they needed to market to their customer slightly differently and distinguish themselves from the traditional Chinese takeaway.

Hotcha offers a modern twist on Chinese, focused on great food using traditional recipes. They wanted to embed some personality into the brand and make it stand out from the competition.

The logo was already established but we gave it a slight update with a new strapline and font and brought the Chinese characters up-to-date.

We art directed several food photo shoots, as we felt that getting the food to look as good as it tasted was essential.

We brought in some quirky illustrations to bring a bit of fun into the branding.

We used bold typography to get across key messages and played with perspective in our layouts to create a unique style that has become synonymous with Hotcha.

“Design & Tonic are true professional. As an experienced buyer and ‘briefer’ of design I have mixed experiences of working with designers. Sam for me is in the A-list. She inspires great confidence as her approach is both strategic and practical and her creative response (and instincts) are at the highest level. Sam thinks like a creative director but she has the skills and craft to deliver. She is also very professional and provides consistent levels of service. I strongly recommend her.”
